The safety of the pilots

The use of technology and the commitment of all parties involved have made the safety of pilots increased significantly in all aspects over the past few years.

Already input, the circuits are much safer. To all this it is added that, for a long time, work has been done in all aspects to minimize the risks of this sport, which, although they exist and cannot be ignored, are now much lower because security has been the basic premise in the competition evolution. The organizers, the circuits and the manufacturers of motorcycles and equipment of all kinds (monkeys, helmets, boots, gloves, etc.) have worked together with the same objective and today it can be ensured without fear of being wrong that the falls , although inevitable, they are less traumatic.

For my part I can speak to you with knowledge of the cause and from my experience as a pilot, the different elements that are part of our security.

For example: the helmet. Although apparently, it may seem that it remains the same, the truth is that it has evolved in security. Its structure is more solid, absorbs more impacts, the problem of fog has been solved and, since last year, the new regulations require that competition helmets offer greater protection against impacts that is much higher than the previous homologation .

With regard to monkeys, they have greatly improved, adding many more resistant, lightweight and anatomical external and internal protections that better absorb the impact on the most exposed areas. Internal elements such as the trellis, chest protection, etc. They also help absorb hard impacts on the back and chest.

The latest technological advance in overalls and the most visible for its effect, is the airbag that is increasingly applied to more areas of the body. It started at the shoulders and backs and now protects almost the entire upper body of the rider. This allows you to have much more mobility since you do not feel the pressure of a protection and, at the moment of the fall, the reaction of the airbag protects much more from the impacts that are received when you hit the ground or any obstacle after a fall. The most complicated part of the evolution of this element was the software, which is the set of parameters that cause it to be activated. At present, the level and reaction time is extraordinarily short.

The boots have also improved a lot in mobility and shock absorption by adding an internal booty that has been used for a few years and that we already began to evolve in the year 2000. For their part, gloves are still the most complicated element because they must allow the pilot has a lot of tact and at the same time protect very small and mobile surfaces and, protection and mobility do not always go hand in hand.
